October: What I Read

 ‘

Terrible. Let’s forget I even read them.

Confess by Colleen Hoover: Terrible. Just terrible. **Audio

Sweet Salt Air by Barbara Delinsky: Was this worse than Confess? Hard to say. Real, real bad. **Audio

Better than the first 2 on my list, but I would not, like, rush to order

One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston: This book was looooooooong and really needed a little editing. But still! Liked it a lot.  **Audio

The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han: Liked this enough to put the next 2 on hold. **Audio

The Fortunes of Jaded Women by Carolyn Huynh: Everyone raved about this, but it was only meh for me. **2022

The Frederick Sisters Are Living Their Best Lives by Jeannie Zusy: I love a good unreliable narrator. This one grew on me. **2022

I mean, you could add these to your pile

Beautiful World Where Are You by Sally Rooney: This books is a phenomenal audiobook. I cannot promise that I would love actually reading it. I think I would skim a lot of the emails that Alice and Eileen send each other, which would be to miss the whole actual point of the freaking book. Plus, the narrator has a wonderful Irish accent. Loved it! **Audio

Endless Summer: Stories from Days That Last Forever by Elin Hilderbrand: This was a delight. She wrote short stories and released never published chapters about people from her books-- such a great bonus collection. **2022

Less Is Lost by Andrew Sean Greer: I loved Less, but maybe I didn’t really need a follow-up? **2022

Good reads

Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood: I adore these academic romances so much, and she has a new one coming next fall— already excited. **2022

Fairy Tale by Stephen King: Oh the pleasure of a new Stephen King. I liked the realistic part of this story better than the actual fairy tale, but it was excellent all around. **2022

Hostage by Claire Mackintosh: WOW WOW WOW-- loved this thriller and could not stop listening **audio

Tracy Flick Can’t Win by Tom Perrotta: I didn’t know he wrote Election. I didn’t even know it was a book. I’m so dumb. Anyway, this was excellent and very entertaining. I read a bunch of think pieces and reviews after I read it and didn’t agree, generally- or thought they were thinking too hard maybe. **2022

Great Reads

I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy: As an iCarly fan, I LOVED this book so much. You should read it— and she narrates the audio version, which is wonderful. **Audio **2022

Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt: One of those books that makes me so jelly that I did not write it— so great. **2022

The Latecomer by Jean Hanff Korelitz: LOVED this book so much. It did not have a super gripping plot, but it was a page-turner for me because of the characters. **2022

Carrie Soto Is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid: Okay, listen. Malibu Rising was not my favorite, but I generally adore TJR. WELL, it took me until the end of this book to realize that Carrie appeared in Malibu Rising and that Mick from that book was in Evelyn Hugo. Damn, she’s created her own little universe, which is something I adore. Anyway, this book is wonderful wonderful wonderful wonderful. **2022

Lucy by the Sea by Elizabeth Strout: Just read it, already. **2022

  1. I just finished My Name Is Lucy Barton which is my first Elizabeth Strout book ever, and I thought it was just brilliantly written!

I'm so excited to be back into a reading routine, but am always blown away (in a good sense - not jealous, just very in awe/proud of you) with how many books you get through in a month and love how you categorize them in this post. It's handy to know which ones are the "great" ones and I have several of the ones you loved on my holds list at the library :)

  2. I, too, adored Carrie Soto. It made me want to learn how to play tennis and I generally do not play sports. I really love TJR, though. Previous characters always tend to show up in her books but I often can not spot them, but I did spot the Malibu Rising characters in this book!

I need to read Lucy by the Sea!
