Minnie is 3.5!

Yesterday, our little living care bear turned THREE AND A HALF!

Also I asked her teacher what the eff is up with 3 year-olds, anyway and ordered THIS BOOK on her rec. Will report back. (I love the title from the days when it was ok to say your kid is a jerk LOL. THIS BOOK IS MY AGE.)

We celebrated with a half cake and a half song, and she made the cake herself.

I had a massage for the first time in forever because I really hurt myself shoveling snow last month, and my general stress level has been A LOT for my body. I feel SO MUCH BETTER, and it wasn’t even a super great massage. He never really used enough pressure, and I fell asleep before I could ask for more LOL.

HARRY HAS COVID, so that’s terrible. He has already started Paxlovid and seems to feel OK. The rest of us are giving him a wide berth, and he is pretty much keeping to himself in his bedroom/bathroom and accepting meals and meds delivered on trays. Luckily for the rest of us, he has not been home a ton lately (sorry to everyone he has been hanging out with), so we are cautiously optimistic that we’ll keep feeling OK. We are all staying upstairs and masking downstairs if we need to be down there for super important reasons like FORTNITE. Jack is sleeping on the couch in the family room (no mask, obvi), and Coop is staying in their room because last time Harry got the VID, he and Jack were roomies and Jack got it, too, so we thought it was probably smart to split up the pair.

Dorothy ad I went shopping for Valentines on the way to drop her off at bonus dance team rehearsals on Sunday, and the Target Vday aisle was RANSACKED! I thought we were going to have to  make paper heart tags at home and give baggies of Easter candy, but then we found 21 of these!! SO PERFECT

Tiny boxes of chocolates that she could just write to and from on- total win and I might buy these for Minnie’s entire VDay career in elementary school.

I made Minnie a heart lunch, but Dorothy and Coop just got their normal stuff because they’re too cool and also Ben packed bonus lunches on Monday because he is the best.

Our VDay date is postponed because our sitter has the VID, so Ben and I had fancy candy and champagne last night while I made homemade pop tarts (heart shaped, natch) for this morning’s breakfast. Tonight we have eleventy billion places to drop off a pick up like normal, but the whole (negative) fam is doing heart-shaped Papa Murphy’s pizza and a heart cookie cake from a local place hashtag ROMANCE.

Minnie made a triumphant return to the big red mat because she is over swim lessons (she is also over posing for pics)

Harry submitted his midterm grades to UW, hoping to be accepted with the regular decision applicants, and he wanted someone to check it over before he pushed submit, so I masked up. SO RETRO.

Send us all the negative thoughts and have a lovely day of love, friends.

  1. Gah! I'm so sorry Harry and your sitter have Covid... I heard from A's adventures in the ER that Covid and RSV spikes were flattening. I'm sorry your fam seems to have caught the tail end of it.

Happy 3.5 to Minnie! Such absolutely joyful pictures. Your retro picture reminded me (and I hope I don't get stoned for this!) that sometimes I find myself missing how cozy lockdown seemed with everyone at home. (Incredibly privileged of me, I know.)

  2. Ugh, so sorry about Harry, and let's hope you all escape it. I mean, who knows anymore what happens with anything *throws hands in air*
Your V-day sounds fun. Not much is happening around here but I might make cookies today, we shall see. R just had a colonoscopy on Monday, so things are pretty sexy around here. Woooooo. Happy half-birthday to Minnie!

  3. The waste water numbers for COVID are so low right now, I can't believe how many people in your life have it. What an absolute terrible Valentine's Day for them. Here's hoping the rest of you remain free from illness!

  4. We have never celebrated a half birthday and the half cake is so cute and clever. Love it. Bummer that covid strikes yet again. Fingers crossed that the next round of grades helps Harry get into Wisconsin. I've never been the kind of mom that made heart shaped sandwiches. Apparently my kids were deprived, because that lunch is super cute. Fingers crossed that no one else goes down with covid.

  5. I'm so sorry. Ugh. First the illnesses after Thanksgiving and now this. I'm hoping everyone else stays healthy and the meds DO THEIR JOB EFFECTIVELY!

I love massages. My ultimate gift of self-care, but I'm too cheap and haven't been in years. Need to change that.

That lunch is so cute. Also, homemade Pop Tarts? What. I gave my kids boxed waffles this morning and thought I was getting all fancy - ha :)

  6. I hope everyone else avoids covid! I took paxlovid, too, and found it super effective. I mean I don't know how mild my case would have been if I hadn't taken it but maybe it helped me not spread it to others? I masked for about 3 days and slept in the guest room but I couldn't handle masking for longer than that. We tested everyone multiple times and magically no one got it! Phil has NEVER tested positive for covid!

Happy 3.5 to Minnie! 3 is a real trip... Taco has his sweet moments but is also just so MOODY. But he hasn't hit the tantrum stage quite yet? That hit around 3.5 for Paul so I have that to look forward to... See this is why I don't love the toddler stage!

    1. Minnie just suddenly is not into doing what we need to do every day— especially all the pick ups and drop offs, and it’s a pain to jolly her along.

  7. Ugh!!! Well I'm sending negative thoughts your way (ha.) Sounds like you managed to have a pretty fun Valentine's Day in spite of it. That heart lunch for Minnie is SO CUTE. And the half birthday... we used to celebrate half birthdays because both my kids have birthdays in December, so I feel like they kind of get overshadowed by Christmas. Maybe we'll do it this summer though- my daughter didn't have a party this year, because who wants to go to a party on December 30th? Besides being a stupid day, things were just too busy. Happy half to Minnie!!!

    1. I was just thinking maybe Minnie could have half bday parties cause August is awkward for school parties when school ends in June and starts in September

  8. Oh, yay, half birthdays. Boo, COVID. Sigh. I've been feeling bleah all week and I'm just waiting for my undergrads to give me whatever crud they're passing around next week. Glad you rallied for V-day and had candy and champagne. There is never a bad time for champagne, is all I'll say. And also? The... enormity of that Costco order made my eyeballs pop out like a cartoon character. May I ask what the HUGE white jugs are? Milk? Juice? Inquiring minds want to know. ;)

    1. LOL— THIS WAS A SMALL ORDER. Yes- milk! Only $2.50 a gallon!

  9. I used to love making cute lunches for my daughter for holidays, and then she got to be too cool for them and didn't want them anymore, and then years later told me that she missed them, and that she found out that when her classmates saw them, they were envious. She thought they were judging her. Sigh.

I love that half birthday cake, so cute!

I'm behind in commenting. Glad H is feeling better now and testing negative!
