Ugh. Colonoscopy. Ugh. And HBD, Jack! (LOL LOL LOL Terrible Title)

I DO NOT WANT to have a colonoscopy tomorrow, you guys. I start drinking the prep today at 4pm and I DO NOT WANT TO. Also, we are supposed to have severe storms that should hit about the time the prep does its work on my system, which is to say, if you see news footage of a woman on a toilet surrounded by rubble, that's what happened.

SO MUCH LAXATIVE, you guys.

Jack is sixteen today! I, of course, remember when he was born in such detail, and now? HE IS IMPOSSIBLY OLD.

We had kringle for breakfast, and he opened his gifts. And now we have three boys in this house and also 3 separate XBoxes.

Jack had to go to school on his bday for standardized testing (whomp whomp), but he already celebrated with friends over the weekend, and I have been working on his traditional Oreo cheesecake to get it ready before I will be, um, indisposed, and everyone has promised to save me a piece. Given the nutrition facts, though, maybe I don't need one.

Also, while I was making the ganache, I let my stand mixer do its thing with the whipped cream. Unfortunately that thing was spread tiny flecks of whipped cream all over the cabinets and walls and small appliances. Oops.

Srsly, though. FOR ONE PIECE

  1. Happy Birthday, Jack. My husband I were just looking at old photos and OH MY GOODNESS HOW WERE THEY EVER THAT SMALL??!!

I love cheesecake! So much! I never make baked cheesecakes, though. That one looks delish.

Ugh, ugh, ugh - re the colonoscopy - but I'm so proud of you for doing it!!! The only way through is through (even if the through involves a lot of time in the bathroom)! Gold stars for doing this!!!

  2. That Oreo cheesecake is magnificent! Happy birthday to your boy!

Hopefully the prep is/was not AS horrible as it could have been, and the colonoscopy goes smoothly and you can get back to eating that glorious cheesecake!

  3. By the time you read this you will have been through it, and I hope all went well. Nothing like colonoscopy prep to make you appreciate the glory of indoor plumbing. Hope you're now home and back to eating solid foods!

  5. Happy Birthday to Jack! That cake is glorious!

I hope your colonoscopy prep (the most difficult part, I hear) went ok and that the procedure is easy and unremarkable.

  6. Happy birthday to Jack! What an amazing looking cake. I hope you managed the prep. Was that go-lightly? That's how I prepped my first colonoscopy, but after that it was pills, I think. I found the pills easier. I guess I did still have to drink something. 3 xboxes? Your house is no doubt the place all teen boys want to hang. Off to read about Jack's arrival. Love a good birthing story. Did you ever watch that show on Lifetime?

By the time you read this you will be done with the colonoscopy. Hope it went well and good for you for getting it done! I was really dreading my first one last year, but I have a friend who died from colon cancer before she was even to the recommended age to start getting colonoscopies and with no family history, so that was certainly motivating to me to get it done. I did get the pills as prep, which seem easier than the jug full of liquid if you want a different option for next time. And, for me, at least, the dread was worse than the actual experience. Hope the same was true for you!

  8. Happy birthday Jack! Three separate X-boxes lol - Big Family Problems. I love that you posted a selfie with your Giant-Ass (lol) Laxative. The colonoscopy thing wasn't as bad as I expected, but I think my next couple of days trying to keep my dog from breaking her new expensive knee are still preferable.

I hope it all went well! I somehow managed a joint endoscopy & colonoscopy as my first official screening. It… was a lot. But it’s over and done now and I don’t have to go back until 2033.

  13. Happy birthday, Jack!

I am sorry you had to deal with colonoscopy prep on his birthday, ugh. The laxative is the worst. Were you able to drink it all?
