Pekin Weekend

I thought maybe a change of scenery would break us out of our funk, and I think it did.  Sort of.  I mean, Hillary Clinton still lost the election to Ivanka's dad despite winning the popular vote bigly.  So, I mean, that was still a living nightmare.

But it was fun to see my parents, who were watching sweet Baby Henry for the week, and my high school friends, and our favorite state park that lost its funding and is now privately maintained and is really run down because that's what happens when the government privatizes shit DOESN'T ANYBODY LEARN A LESSON IN THIS COUNTRY EVER?
This is what we got my mom for her birthday but it was obviously way funnier last week before the country died.
 LEAVES!
While Ben raked, Jack and I took a walk to my old elementary school/junior high and I started in all the windows like a creeper while he played on the playground.
We made it back in time for leaf jumping.  Phew!

We also headed to Bradley to see our favorite bad ass bronze bitch Lydia Moss Bradley
 And also to climb trees.

 A lovely Elsa
This is the perfect metaphor for our country right now, these 3 sad and kind of tense looking bald eagles in a tiny cage in the middle of a run-down privatized park.
If you'll look closely, you see Cooper in the branches because when a park is home to bears and wolves and cougars and bobcats, you should absolutely let your five year-old veer off the beaten path.
The light on this bench was magic,
but we never quite got it right.
 See?
The park has this HUGE slide built into a hill that Dorothy clearly adored.  (I wish I had taken pictures of the boys on it, but I was taking Dorothy or Henry down and then climbing back up and then taking the other one back down.

I love this picture of the three of us so much-- Lydia looks HAPPY
We looked at our wedding album and at my parents'-- so fun.
And I'll leave you with this because #lovetrumpshate

  1. I could not find Cooper in that picture! It was like Where's Waldo in that I finally said, "Eff it, someone else will find him".

  3. All one has to do is look at the expression on Dorothy's face while her dad reads to her and you can't help but support #JeddBaby5
