5 on a Friday: Whole Lotta Whine

 1. I am starting to think that some of the things on my 23 for 23 list are things I actually DO NOT WANT to do. You know? Like, the water park thing. Punted AGAIN. I think we are going to a lower key water park with some of the kids next week, but that remains to be seen.

2. Something I adore that’s making my nail goal easier, though, is THIS cuticle balm. Smells great and is fun to rub in. Also is $7.

3. I stopped tracking my spending. I think I need an app. Or something I am actively saving toward. Otherwise, I am just noting how much we spend at the grocery store. Besides the fact that we are about $30 from the same total every week no matter where we shop or what’s on the menu, I gleaned no insights.

4. I also have abandoned the dance parties. Hated them, and Dorothy mocked my technique.

5. I have the spring break blahs. Facebook is pelting me with memories of all of our fun spring breaks from years past, and this year my break and the kids’ break did not align. We planned to go on a college tour road tip next week for their break (around my class schedule), but then Ben’s calendar filled with meetings he can’t cancel, and Harry has tennis try-outs all week. AND the boys have their state speech tourney next weekend. **Sad trombone** PLUS IT IS GOING TO SNOW HERE. Hate that for me. I could really use a trashy beach or a museum or a national park about now. MAYBE SOME PANDAS for good measure. THE GRANDPARENTS. SOMETHING.

See you next week. Which will be like this week. Only with snow. And no public school child care.

  1. We are planning to go to Dubuque tomorrow for a birthday party, but the forecast has wintry mix/snow just when we're supposed to drive. I am NOT pleased. Some forecasts are just two inches, but my husband's app is saying eight to ten. How are we supposed to plan around this weather IN LATE MARCH. Grumble, grumble. Wisconsin weather is NOT OKAY.

  3. College tour?!! How does this happen to our babies?

My cuticles look like something straight from a horror movie. Since I was a kid I've had so many hangnails and - ugh. Maybe a cuticle cream would be the magic solution?!

  4. We usually share your weather in MI, but somehow it looks like we're going to be sunny and in the 50s next week. Oops. I guess that's not helping :D.

  5. Also... coming back to say... I'm sad you're abandoning #4 dance parties. It seemed like such a cute way to move in the middle of the day with the kids. If Dorothy is too fancy for it, perhaps just Minnie? Or what if it was called "Silly Dance Party?" so technique didn't matter or "Dance Class Party" and Dorothy got to teach the moves?

  6. Ugh, I'm sorry. We got snow yesterday while my husband is in sunny Vietnam and I am SO over this winter. It must be so hard to wrangle older and younger kids and have to consider your work schedule in the bargain. We also never had great luck with planned dance parties, only spontaneous ones (guilty giggled at Dorothy mocking your technique). Oh, and I often start trying to track my spending in a pretty notebook and I can never keep it up either. I'm not a big 'app for that' person, but I think you might be right.

  7. I have been trying to figure out a different way to track my spending that doesn't entail writing down every single thing that comes out of my banking account. That's what I've been doing for the past few years and while it worked fine then... I am just OVER IT now. I don't care how much money I'm spending on my bills. That's just how much my life costs! But I DO want to be better about how I spend money on other things, like food and clothes and makeup etc. I'm still noodling over what I want to do. Solidarity, sister.

  8. I'm with you and Stephany. I record what I spend and my income and... yeah. That's what I need to spend to live my life the way I want to. I like keeping track but... I also don't like keeping track? Share if you do find an app you like. I know San likes You Need a Budget, and a lot of people use Mint. I haven't taken the plunge with any of them yet, though...
