Better! Better! Better!

Thank you for all of the comments, emails, IG messages, etc, about Minnie!!

I **think** she is on the mend for realz. She seems to feel more like herself, and her cough is getting much better. She still says she feels “ not good” and is “ho hick” when asked, but I think that’s just a thing she says now? She DOES seem to have something kind of off with her sense of taste, and she claims that a lot of her favorite foods taste like sauerkraut— sooooo, this is kind of weird.

I have a brutal cough, but I feel generally OK except that my head throbs when I cough, and I am always coughing. **yikes face**

At least 6 grad student instructors have COVID, which makes final exam week kind of tricky and inspired me to make what was supposed to be our last staff meeting a really detailed email and couple of how-to videos.

This is us all the time.

I made it a whole semester getting actually dressed to take the kids to school and then broke my streak yesterday in Hanukkah pj pants, a shirt of Harry’s, and Cooper’s shoes and coat. LOL.

Hanukkah night 3 was GAME NIGHT! Only Ben, Coop, and Jack were in Sheboygan at a hockey tourney for the weekend, so Jack and Coop opened this CLUE version at their hotel. Minnie got a memory game, and Harry and Dorothy got Ticket to Ride: Europe, since the OG Ticket to Ride gets a ton of play over here. (We played it after Minnie went to bed— SO FUN)

NEVER PLAY THIS GAME WITH ALL 72 CARDS MY GOD.

In other weekend news, Harry demolished Dorothy wishing on the Thanksgiving wishbone which has just been sitting there all disgusting on the window sill for weeks. But, they both wished for a new puppy, so nobody wins, actually.

Coop’s team got 3rd at the tourney, and Coop won the team MVP necklace, scored in every game, and even got a hat trick. But Ben was the real winner because he took home these lovely raffle basket prizes:

Also, Coop is THAT KID who wear shorts year-round
And the Polar Caps parents won the brat eating trophy, so that’s quite the accomplishment.
Night 4 was mittens and a Target gift. Card that the kid immediately wanted to spend (Harry: baseball cards; Jack Thinking Putty; Coop, a portable phone charger; Dorothy, a slinky and a stuffed triceratops; Minnie, a Pound Puppy and an Elmo phone that sings Wheels on the Bus). Ben took them because I always let them spend over their gift cards and just pay the difference ($29 is practically $20, right??), but Ben never does. #oppositesattract

Also, in a pinch 5T mittens work for me **shrug**
Last night was book night, I have no pictures, but here’s what they got:

Jack: annotated versions of America’s founding docs and significant political speeches
Dorothy: A new series written in text message since she’s into the epistolary novel, apparently
Minnie: An actually horrible book that teaches kids they can’t believe experts and can only rely on their own observations. GAH, SHOULD HAVE LOOKED BEYOND THE COVER.

Onward and upward, friends!

This is Lisa. I have been thinking about you guys and am so glad she is on the mend. Your symptoms are similar to the viral bronchitis I had in October. The best thing for me was using that netipot. It helped with the awful head pain I had when coughing!

Memory with 72 card and a 3yo. Hard pass!! I only play with like 6 matches with Taco!

    1. ooooh I haven't used one of those in forever, but I bet it would be perfect for this-- thanks for the tip.

  2. Oh, good news that things seem to be heading in the right direction. Let the trend continue upward!

I love a good epistolary novel. I think Dorothy and I are kindred spirits.

  3. Well, I'm glad Minnie is feeling better. By the way, if it were me breaking my streak of actually getting dressed to take the kids to school and decided to wear pajamas one day, that would be the day my car breaks down and I have to stand there waiting for roadside assistance, in my pajamas. So I'm glad that went well for you!
Hanukkah sounds SO FUN around your house! I love all the gifts. And congrats to Coop- that is awesome.

  4. Such fun gifts.
And YOU TRIED TO PLAY MEMORY WITH ALL THE PIECES. Gah. That was one of the first lessons I learned in motherhood. Never play with all the matches or it takes forever and is basically akin to gouging out your own eyeballs with red-hot pokers (read: it sucks).

So glad Minnie is finally feeling better and hope you get your cough under control soon. I had a cough I could not shake last year after Covid (it lasted for months) and I finally had to go on a steroid - I think? I remember I had to rinse my mouth out like crazy afterward to avoid a yeast infection - puffer (only for like 2-3 days), but I wasn't able to sleep and it was really impacting my quality of life. Just a heads up if it hangs around for a long time, you might want to get it checked out. If you happened to have Covid, really long, bad coughs are a common issue and my family doc said a lot of people weren't getting treated for it quickly enough.

  5. I'm so glad everyone is on the mend, although boo to your cough, that sucks. I am having secondhand stress at the thought of Memory with 72 cards and a three year old. Aiee.

  6. SO GLAD Minnie is feeling better, although your cough/headache sound miserable. I just love your Hanukkah gifts. Also, I am totally you with the Target gift cards and my husband is totally your husband. (He even makes my kid pay TAX, which I would NEVER.) (That may be because I grew up without sales tax and it still baffles me to this day.)

  7. So glad Minnie is feeling better, but sorry that you've been hit by the nasty cough. Then again, she has been glued to you since...Thanksgiving? Plus, students = petri dishes, so...Anyway! I am glad I do not have to play games with kids. I am so not a game person. The idea of Memory with a 3 year old on (what I suspect are) albuterol nebs is terrifying, LOL.
