SO VERY TWO

 Oh my goodness.

Minnie, you guys.

SHE IS SO VERY TWO all of the sudden. Or maybe she is super advanced and getting a head start on her three-nage year. Either way YIKES.

She stopped napping (HOLD ME WHILE I SOB ON YOUR SHOULDER), but her body has not stopped NEEDING A NAP MY GOODNESS DOES SHE NEED IT.

(Harry and I walked her to sleep around 5 pm today, but she woke up EVEN MADDER)


Okay, on the plus side, she is sleeping a solid 11 hours overnight. BUT THAT IS ALL SHE IS SLEEPING. I am so happy she made it to the end of my academic year before dropping her nap because my productivity has TANKED, and I am confident that by fall, we will all find our new rhythm. 

She is happy and delightful all morning, through about 3:30pm, and then the shit its the fan and stays there swirling around all over our freaking faces until she goes to bed at 8:30. 8:30 is lights out in her crib, etc, and really? It should be 7:30, but that’s not possible with everyone else’s schedule and that asshole THE SUN.

Today, she also did that thing where her hunger didn’t line up to meal and snack times so she snacked more and then was not hungry for lunch or dinner and then snacked off schedule and was not hungry, etc etc etc. And! Because she was SUCH a pill in the afternoon, I was NOT going to pick some kind of menu or schedule battle with her, so she mainly ate Pirate’s Booty and homemade chocolate chip cookies today.

(Tried to feed her the dinner she rejected at home at Dorothy’s dance team practice. Still not into it, but back to being her delightful self in front of others).


(New cookie recipe I made that is a Frankenstein’s monster (BUT A DELICIOUS MONSTER) of many other recipes I like: start with 4 sticks of butter, 1.5 cup brown sugar, 1.5 cup white sugar. Cream. Add 4 eggs, 1 TBSP vanilla, 1/2 tsp almond extract. Mix. Add 1 tsp salt, 1 TBSP corn starch, 2 tsp baking soda, 4.5 C flour. Mix. Then put in 2 BAGS of semi sweet chocolate chips and one BAG of milk chocolate chips. Chill dough 30 mins And bake for 8-9 mins at 350. Makes about 6 dozen. GOINE IN 2 DAYS.)

I have other things to talk about, but I AM SPENT. Off to drink a glass of rose and split a frozen cauliflower crust pizza with Ben. Hope your days are WAY LESS WHINY than mine.

Tell me though— what’s your go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe and what weird little tweaks do you always make? I am always trying to make my excellent cookies EVEN BETTER.

  2. Hoo boy! The nap dropping. I can't think off the top of my head what my chocolate chip cookie recipe is - I have several - but my key is always to at least double the vanilla.

  3. Oh goodness. Dropping the nap is THE WORST. Hopefully she settles into the new routine soon and it becomes a good thing -- a more freeing thing, without needing to be somewhere at a specific time so she can nap. My husband makes a killer giant chocolate chip cookie. It has chunks instead of chips and has flakes of sea salt on the top. My "secret" is to always let the dough rest a day before baking -- I think they taste better, plus the cold dough in a hot oven seems to make for crisper edges and gooeyer centers.

    1. it is so hard to rest the dough around here. Even if I stash it in the basement fridge, there are always suspicious hand prints in it... I have made a chunk/salt flake recipe and it was SO good and the inspo for the corn starch add.

  4. I dread the day that Will drops his nap. He has never been a stellar napper but we can usually count on a 1-1.5 hour nap. He does sleep well at night - in bed at 7ish, up around 6:30. We are realizing that Paul was a very easy 2yo. Will is definitely WAY more challenging but probably more typical. He is so very moody, though, and his mood changes with no warning/for no reason. So week day mornings are especially challenging since we are trying to get out of the house around 6:45.

    We very rarely make cookies as I haven't found a GF cookie recipe I love!

    1. Minnie has had a few mood reversals lately that are BAFFLING. Like, one minute laughing/the next minute face down on the floor of Target.

  5. Oh boy, that sounds like an exhausting time. Thank God she's cute!

    I do not have a favorite cookie recipe (I rarely bake cookies), but how about a good pound cake?

  6. My kids napped forever, so I am SORRY, but yeah, she reminds me so much of Eve and more hanging time with Eve was always welcome, even when she was being a pill. That cookie recipe sounds amazing. I don't bake cookies that often, but I have a go-to biscuit recipe, and last summer I found an amazing mint chocolate chip cookie recipe that uses mint from the garden:https://www.dessertfortwo.com/mint-chocolate-chip-cookies/ I brought them camping but my kids wouldn't let me share them with anyone else.

  7. OMG. So much two. So, so much two. I hope that the nap returns in some form soonish. I can't imagine how hard it is to deal with a fussy crabby pain of a toddler for HOURS each day. While navigating life with 4 very busy other kids. Yikes. Hang in there. Maybe go have one of those cookies? :)
