Case of the Mondays

OMG YOU GUYS THE HOLIDAYS ARE UPON US.

I am plugging along with assorted menus and wishlists. Our Elf has his stuff on lock this year and is ready with Christmas jammies (and he even bought everyone a shirt they will wear again, but you better believe the pants are al matching). I have gotten something for most people and lots of some people who are very easy to buy for (cough cough DOROTHY cough cough).

I have a NYT recipe box going with Thanksgiving recipes, and we have started chipping away at our grocery list. My ILs are bringing a fresh turkey with them and making sweet and mashed potatoes at our house. I am making a pumpkin cheesecake with Biscoff crust, and I have already put in a pie order at our favorite bakery. We are making cheesy potatoes (yes we are having 3 kinds of potatoes), green bean casserole, brussels sprouts, stuffing, fluffy jello (midwesty!) ham, and cranberry sauce, all from scratch. Plus peanut butter blossom cookies. And dinner rolls. And my MIL is also bringing chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin bars, so we will have 6 desserts for 9 people, which is a pretty good ratio.

But still! So much to decide on and purchase.

Our family white elephant/yankee swap theme is Inside Out this year, which is going to be fun to shop for, I think...

Anyone else like me and just realize it is already MID NOVEMBER??? How's your holiday prep?

  1. Omg that cart photo is making my heart race. Lol. We are going to my brother’s for Thanksgiving. All I need to bring is the veggie tray and dips and olives. I am also bringing sugar cookies for the kids to decorate as a little bday activity as we are celebrating Taco’s 5th bday that day.

I haven’t done any holiday shopping yet but we have a very short list of things to buy since we are quite minimalists when it comes to gifts. I kind of dread the onslaught of gifts TBH. We have asked for a lot of experience type of gifts for the kids this year. I hope people comply…

  2. The ground on my stand mixer broke and so I am waiting for the one I want to go on sale - hopefully soon. I want to start my Christmas baking!

  3. Thanksgiving is in my rearview mirror, so I'm thinking about Christmas. I have a modest amount done, but zero wrapping. I mostly cook the same thing every year so I don't have to think too long and hard about the menu.
Usually I feel like I have All the Things very well planned at this point and this year I'm kinda limping along. BUT. The tree is up and most of the rest of the decor, so I guess I crossed that off the list earlier than normal. And it's oh-so-festive in our living room.

  4. We are traveling across the country for Thanksgiving, so I'm mostly focused on packing and making sure everyone has cool weather clothes in the right sizes. We do have some decorations up minus outdoor lights, but I need to spend some time getting organized. Honestly, this may not happen until after we are home from Philly although I may try to buy a few gifts during black Friday sales online.

  5. I think I will aim to do a ton of black Friday Hanukkah shopping (and G/J bday shopping) again this year. Tgiving is so easy for us because it's a big family thing not hosted by me, and I just bring 3 key lime pies (my assignment every year basically).

  6. ACK!!! Where is the time going??? WHY does this time of year, my favorite, go by so frickin fast?
I haven't started any Thanksgiving prep, which I now realize should stress me out. It will only be the four of us, but still- my son is coming home, I need to clean the house and do all the shopping... HOW is Thanksgiving next week????

  7. HOW is it T-giving next week!? I can't wait to see your tees in action. And that pumpkin cheesecake with the Biscoff crust sounds awesomely decadent! We have a set (though extensive) menu, so that part is ok, but our guest list expands and contracts depending on friends in town, international students, and on and on and I don't have any proper RSVPs yet... I better go check on those.

(I'm secretly hoping it's a small gathering this year... I've not been very social lately.)
