poooooooool!

In Madison, country club and pool and tennis club pools open on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, and the girls and I were READY, even though it was a cool 60 degrees all weekend.

Minnie and I shopped for pool bag essentials after preschool on Friday
And we were there when doors opened on Saturday

I sat on my chair fully clothes (long sleeves, even) and read the book that made NGS and J HATE Jodi Picoult. I loved the book, surprise ending and all and remain a Picoult stan.
SO COLD. I cannot overstate that.
We were back for round 2 the next day sans Dorothy who went to a pool across town with a friend. I remained fully clothed and on my chair, and I read another book!

Minnie was WIPED OUT after, and we found out on Tuesday that she actually has strep-- ooooops.
Monday, the bog boys joined us because neither of them was working, and we ate garbage pool dinner (well, they did. I am doing NO SUGAR and anti-inflammatory, so I had a chopped mediterranean salad no cheese, no dressing, add chicken-- so basically lettuce, red onion, green pepper, cucumbers, and black olives with grilled chicken on top).

I also read my third book of the pool season, and this one was EXCELLENT.

IT WAS SO COLD ALL WEEKEND, but that's exactly the way I like it, especially with these freaking hot flashes.

I can't wait for a summer full of days exactly like this one (with about 100% less strep).

  1. Sarah this looks SO FUN (well, except for the strep part). Though, cold water is my absolute nemesis in life, so I'd be the delicate orchid surrounded by fuzzy blankets and gripping a travel mug of hot coffee if I was by the pool. Kids are made of tougher stuff! My daughter seems impervious to the cold, especially when swimming is involved.

  2. So funny - My Sister's Keeper was the first Picoult I ever read and I really liked it. But I haven't liked anything she's written since! So I guess our tastes don't overlap on that author. Hope Minnie is feeling better! I feel like the 60s is the teens in Celsius, which is chilly for the pool for sure!

  3. Ha ha, it's so funny how the kids embraced the pool so fiercely, while you were all bundled up from the cold. Yes, I would like it to be 60s all summer! Sigh. Anyway... I guess Minnie's on day 2 of antibiotics? I hope she's feeling better.

  4. Our pools don't open until mid-June since school doesn't get out until the first or second week of June and they are heavily staffed by HS kids. They also close in mid-August which is kind of a bummer. But we'll make the most of it. I am a HARD PASS on going to the pool in cold weather, though. Hot flashes have not hit me yet and I am such a baby about being cold.

Sorry to hear about strep! We discovered Will has an ear infection this morning. It's theoretically easier to treat now that he has tubes as we put drops in his ears but he HATES getting drops in his ears.

  5. I get the sense that Minnie is a Golden Girl in a little girl's body and it brings me so much joy. I just love it

  6. OMG THAT FUCKING ENDING. RAGE. I don’t hate that book as much as I hate A LITTLE LIFE, but it’s close. When I go back and look at my reviews on my blog, I’m much nicer about both of them, but as time goes by I resent that they exist in this world and get angry.

Boo about strep, I hope she’s on the mend now.

    3 books in 3 days? #WINNING #SUMMERGOALS

  7. I am cold just thinking about sitting near a pool and watching a child get wet. Brrr. I believe that you were fully clothed. No clue how you read three books in one weekend though. Amazing. I dislike Jodi books. I don't know which one that is that you're holding up, but I'm not even tempted to look it up. I did laugh at Julie's 'RAGE' in her comment. Poor Minnie with strep. What even? I'm ready for the pool, well - not READY-ready, as in I need to schedule my bikini wax. I asked Mini what she thought about me buying a skirted suit this year and she said it made her sad. So, that's not an option - I guess.
