Monday updates

Cooper! Went to regionals for USA Diving last weekend on the Purdue campus. To qualify for zones at the end of June he needed to place in the top 15 in his events. He took THIRD in both 1-meter and 3-meter, so check and check! Because of the way the age groups work, he is a 13 year-old seventh grader competing against high schoolers in the 14-15 age group, so his finishes were awesome. He also LOVED Purdue's campus and has a new school on his wish list.

Next up: AAU Red-White-Blue nationals in North Carolina at the end of this month and then USA Diving zones (where he will also compete in tower) in Cleveland in June. If he places in the top 10 at his zone, he will qualify to USA Diving nationals in Mission Viejo, CA in July. (And we also have a trip to Charleston for dance nats in June-- phew!).

We are trying to decide who will travel to what-- we want to do some stuff all together, especially since we are apart during the week, but we're not sure.

Fun stuff to do in Cleveland? Recs for Huntersville, NC?

I realize I left you hanging re: my job. I hemmed and hawed for more than a week, and I ultimately decided to stay with my current job that I love, It was impossible for me to wrap my head around a 12-month gig right now, and I talked friends' ears off about it. I think I am at an age where some things are more important than salary, you know?

Also, I accidentally have Jason Momoa's hair from A Minecraft Movie (which the girls and I saw on Friday and I read a whole book on my Kindle during it).

Harry wraps up his freshman year of college (LOL HOW is this even possible??) next week and will be home in time to take Coop to his first travel baseball tourney of the season thank goodness because I have to take Dorothy to dance pics, and Ben is gone for his school's commencement. He ended up working all year at the campus events job I badgered him into signing the interest form for at orientation, and he got a raise, even. After a summer of managing the pool (LOL HOW is this even possible), he'll go back to campus where he has picked up a communication minor and plans to live with 3 friends in a suite.

How I still picture him, 18 years ago:

His first summer at the pool, 13 years ago:

Jack is heading into college application season-- ugh this was NOT my favorite thing about senior year. But! I am SO EXCITED about his options and CANNOT EVEN WAIT to find out where he goes. I helped him make a brag sheet for his rec letter writers, and he has had an awesome 4 years-- AP and honors classes, TONS of activities, a job during the school year, leadership roles in his clubs, SECOND IN THE STATE in special occasion speaking as a junior, diving all 3 years-- he's a great kid. I always think of him as this age, though:

  4. Congrats to Cooper! And Purdue is such a great school! My former colleague's son is graduating from there this week with an environmental engineering major. (side rant: he interned with the USDA the last 2 summers and had an offer for employment - and then got "doged" and they eliminated his position. His dad is like - gee, thank goodness they eliminated the position for the kid with 2 summers of experience with the organization that graduated summa cum laude from the Purdue engineering program. SIGH.)

  5. Oh my goodness that photo of baby Jack. The days really do fly, don't they?

I love the idea of a brag sheet for recommendation writers! Not just for the writers, but for the kid: to see all that he's accomplished so far! Amazing!

  6. Congrats to Cooper. So impressive. All the best to him in the upcoming competitions. I know he'll do great. It's funny how that happens, still seeing our 'babies' as babies when they're so much bigger and they're doing adult like or big kid things. College applications and deciding stuff is hard. We are stuck in this cycle, it feels never ending between Reg's gap year and both Reg and Curly's b-ball options. Eek. It's hard.
