1. Thanks for the advice about upping the strength training via comment, text, and email. Sarah suggested this podcast, and I am learning a ton (she got hooked from Kae-- love this small blog world). Emma talks a lot about weight loss, so do not listen if this is a trigger for you. She also reinforced a ton of what I already know and do- -including how to eat away from home in a way that supports your goals. My main problem is that I, um, hate strength training. And! I am really bad at pushing myself when a workout is hard or feels uncomfortable. I really despise group fitness, but perhaps it is finally time to get a trainer or take a class.
2. I went to Barnes and Noble the other day because I was running errands near one, and I added a ton of books to my notes app and then, later, to my Libby and library holds-- such a fun (and free!) way to spend a chunk of time. Here are a few I am really excited about but haven't come across in all my googling:
3. I am on top of my calendar, including dance intensives for the next 3 weekends, an ever-changing club diving schedule, and all sorts of other gems.
My hair appointment is scheduled for mid-August. Cross your fingers that these BANGS will be grown out enough to be sort of cute by then and that my hair will be long enough for top knots. I miss top knots.
4. I am enjoying what I have AND ALSO.
I KEPT GOING BACK to the Athleta semi-annual sale, and by far my favorite purchase (even better than THIS adorable skirt that I love or THIS ideal t-shirt dress) is THIS romper-- it is so perfect I wish I would have bought every color and called it a summer uniform. I also bought other basics for me and stuff for the girls-- bras and a cami/shorts set for D and a cute little sporty set for M. Next time this sale happens, I am going to just go once and buy everything I want when the colors and sizes are plentiful-- I just did not admit to myself that I was going to buy lots, so I purchased in dribs and drabs.
These Nutella biscuits were a random Costco substitution from my online shopper, and they are DELICIOUS. I don't even like Nutella, and these were amazing. (I ate one before my healthy habits reset). The kids ate FOUR BAGS in 24 hours.
5. In health news, the vid is gone, although it also took out Cooper (not a surprise since he and Ben traveled together). I have been on the living room couch since LAST WEDNESDAY, but everything is finally back to normal. We stuck Coop in with Ben to avoid getting the rest of us sick, especially Jack.
Jack got a 4 on his APUSH test! YAY! Also, he got 4 wisdom teeth removed the same day **yikes face** We did not want him to deal with that AND the vid, so we have been extra super careful.
This is all he feels like eating.I am not one to wish away these happy golden days, but I am glad that July is clipping along because it is a BEAST over here.
Oh! Dog walking shoes! I went the total cheapskate route and used a $30 Dicks reward to buy $35 sale children's Nikes.
Dog-approved!
I have Fun For The Whole Family sitting on the bottom of my HUGE library stack right this moment! I shall report back when I've made my way through it! (nine library books and two more are ready for pickup, eee)
ReplyDeleteI totally feel you on strength training. I love everything else but lifting weights is so boring omg. But I'm the opposite: I HATE working out at home and group fitness is the only thing that gets me to do strength training and running outside when the weather is nice is the only "home" cardio that can hold my attention.
ReplyDeleteI don't like strength training either. That's actually an improvement, because I used to hate it. If you told me I could just run and never lift weights again, and be healthy, I would do that for the rest of my life, happily. But- life doesn't work like that (when you get to, ahem, a "certain age.")
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing in Barnes and Noble- browse through the store while checking to see what's available at the library. It's fun to buy books, but hard to justify when you can get them for free.
Ughhhhhh wisdom teeth removal! I hope Jack's recovery goes well.
ReplyDeleteAnd boo for Cooper getting Covid too! Everyone seems to have Covid.
I am sad but also glad I avoided the Athleta sale -- and I am ignoring the Nordstrom sale, too. I have plenty of clothes even if it doesn't feel like I do, and I would like to feel better about my body before I buy anything new.
None of those books ring a bell! I will check them out.
I love perusing books stores and finding books that way! I tend to buy one or two just to keep them in business, but I can’t afford to buy all of the good books, so I take pictures of others. I purchase more often at small independent books stores than at B&N, though. Today I might go to our local B&N and read part of a physical book that I recently listened to. Is that weird?
ReplyDeleteWe have that fly trap, it works well! What works equally well is a little mason jar with little holes punched in the top with a nail, then I put apple cider vinegar with a sploop of dish soap. I have both going right now, because it is definitely fruit fly season.
Congrats to Jack on the awesome AP score! When Maya had her wisdom teeth removed, at one point her mouth started tasting really nasty. She couldn’t describe it differently, just really bad. Turned out she had dry socket, which is very painful but easily treated with clove oil. Just FYI, something to watch out for.
Going to go do my strength training now, which I also really dislike. A class would definitely up my game, but I don’t have time or money for that.
Based on Kae's recommendation, I've been using the empowered app for strength workout for the past three years. And I listen to some of her podcasts. I like weight lifting (and hate hard cardio) so it works for me but agree that both for health and ascetics, building muscle in middle age is a game-changer. Plus it is pretty fun feeling stronger and seeing it happen!
ReplyDeleteCurly got a 4 on her APUSH test too. Congrats to Jack. I hope his mouth recovers quickly with no issues. I guess I like strength training. It beats running which I do- but I don't love it until it's over. ;) I have had to find a new video to follow for my workouts, sadly. Long story. Change is hard, but I've decided I'm gonna survive. I hope you're happy with your hair growth by the time your appt rolls around.
