In my mind, Christmas decorations turn into clutter the second Christmas is over, but this year? I felt very bothered by all the junk (and the HUGE living room tree that ruined the traffic flow of the entire room) BEFORE the holiday.
So, this was us at 7:30 yesterday morning
We started our shopping marathon at the mall, where I found new earring backs for the gorgeous earrings I got for Christmas (one of the backs fell off I think when I tried on a new hat I got (that is lined with satin so I can wear it to run and not ruin my hair), and I am SO LUCKY that I did not lose the earring). Next, Dorothy swapped out some Aerie leggings for sweats (and I got a really adorable skirt/sweatshirt combo set and MIGHT GO BACK TODAY for a weekend lounge set). We also hit up Ulta, where I only came away with my favorite under eye patches and dry shampoo.
Next, we went to the fun outdoor mall with fancier stores that is less fun in the winter. Dorothy didn't even wear a coat, and when I pointed that out, she said, IT'S OK. I WILL GET A HOT CHOCOLATE.
After Sephora, Dorothy decided she actually did want her long sleeved t-shirt from Lulu, and I regretted not buying a giant scrunchie, sooooo we got BACK IN THE FREAKING LINE MY GOD.
I started the day with a festive pre-dawn run
And admired the quiet
The elves brought matching PJ pants and fun shirts
So much opening!
New running glasses!
Annabel smelling Dorothy's new perfume
Only left the house for dog walks!
Coop is an expert bracelet maker
Ukulele concert-- we got tickets, even
SHE TOOK MY SPOT
We spent the days leading up to Christmas with Ben's parents and had a lovely, lowkey time.

Jack baked the perfect chocolate chip cookies with his grandma
Minnie (who tested positive for strep on 12/22-- but negative for all the viruses) made her own batch of Santa cookies with her own bagged frosting (I always only make my own frosting, but the store bought colors are way more vibrant).Dorothy made the eyeball cookie
We had eve of the eve dinner at our favorite Thai place
And! The kids saw Mall Santa. (Jack saw his 18th mall santa, in fact, so he is officially off the hook for Santa pics, and I wonder how many more years we can keep up the tradition).
We had hot chocolate and viewed the Capitol Christmas tree on Christmas Eve
Phew! What a long wrap up. Gold star if you made it this far, and I hope you also had a delightful holiday.

In Spain we keep the Xmas decorations up until Epiphany (Jan 6th) or the following Sunday (Baptism of Jesus). For Epiphany, but really, for all December, we have a delicious round sort of cake with a hidden little present in it. It's called Roscón de Reyes. It has a perfumed flavor...delicious!
ReplyDeleteLOL that the tree and lights had to come down RIGHT AWAY, at least it wasn’t noon on Christmas Day. We generally keep ours until New Year’s Day.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you had a wonderful day! Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah!
Looks so fun and cozy. Favs: the brother making bracelets and the fun t-shirts pics. Twice in line at Lulu I would never EVER have had the patience for that. Abc what the what with an item showing up without a tag. Grrr.
ReplyDeleteOmg the t-shirts, especially Abolish Ice. You are my HERO for actually shopping on Boxing Day, I didn't even get dressed. I was so relieved that Minnie's ukulele concert was actually at your house.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't cleaned up anything, but our Christmas tree is out in the living room, and in the family room where we spend all our time the decorations are only on the mantel and shelf so it doesn't feel like clutter.
Do the under eye patches reduce puffiness and if so please share the name.
Oh goodness, you un-decorated on Dec 26! Dang! I consider that still a holiday... BUT, I will say, you're house over the holidays sounds crazy with so many people and gifts and cookies and all... so I don't blame you for being a bit done by the end of it LOL
ReplyDeleteAwww Minnie!! Glad she is feeling better.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun and full holiday!
(This is Suzanne.)
I love that your trees are down and I am quasi-jealous. Some years I want to leave it up forever and other years I want it down RIGHT AWAY and I think this year it is going to be closer to the latter. My father-in-law leaves tomorrow and all the Christmas decor gets stored in a little cupboard under the stairs (YES, LIKE IN HARRY POTTER), so I'm waiting until he leaves to dismantle things. I'll leave our swag on the mantle and the wreaths on the door but the rest must go!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Minnie is feeling better. We had almost a decade of someone being sick over Christmas.
This all sounds so fun!!! I love the mother-daughter shopping spree. Your Christmas sounds cozy and festive. I'm glad Minnie is feeling better (and that no one else got sick!) Honestly, I love these recaps because it's just the way Christmas should be, and I love to live it vicariously (I mean- mine was nice too, just a little different).
ReplyDeleteMy apartment has been fully de-Christmased and IT FEELS SO GOOD. Every year, I think I'll leave things up until after New Year's, but every Dec 26th, I am ready to start putting Christmas away. HA. I am glad you understand me in this!
ReplyDeleteYou needed to come to my Christmas-free zone. LOL. I am Not A Decorator. You're welcome anytime you get overwhelmed. (I literally have nothing on the walls. Nothing. Ha.)
