I have to get ready FAST this semester because I have to go to work and am the only adult at home the majority of weekday mornings getting 4 other people out the door. So! I have become SUPER FREAKING FAST at makeup!
When Elisabeth wrote a post like this, I just had to write my own-- the detailed of people's grooming routines are FASCINATING, so please share your product MVP in the comments!!
1. Put on my silly puffy tween headband
2. Wash my fave with Aveeno calm face wash (the only thing that stops my redness), apply Cerave vitamin C serum then apply Neutrogena Hydro Boost moisturizer/sunscreen mixed with a tiny dollop of Tarte tinted moisturizer on my face and The Ordinary caffeine serum and Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream on my eyes (will swap this out for The Eye Cream when it runs out, but I have been using this same pump bottle for 6 months).
(My doc thinks my facial redness is perioral dermatitis, and I am super sensitive to any smells in my face products and have had to choose VERY GENTLE things-- sort of hate it, honestly, but it's saving me money **shrug**)
3. While the potions set, I brush my teeth for 2 minutes and floss
4. I do not use blush or foundation make up, but I do use this sheer glittery Nars stick on my cheeks (swipe and blend with a brush). Next, I use Tarte creaseless concealer on my lids and under my brows. I use Tarte shimmery face tape right under my eyes. I brush my eye brows with an old toothbrush and then swipe them with clear mascara. Right now, I am really into THIS pink matte Ulta eye shadow from lash line to brow, and I use a slightly darker pink in my creases. Mascara primer is a MUST you guys! I prefer Lancome, but I am out and hoping it appears in my stocking, so I am using Tarte right now, and it is fine. I really like THIS particular rust/brown Sephora eye liner, which I use in a super thin line right on my lash line and blend. Then I finish with Lancome mascara (THE FREAKING BEST and worth every single penny).
5. Lips: I sleep in my Laneige lip mask and use a ton of Blistex when I jog, so sometimes, I forget my lips, and that's fine. I have a cherry chapstick (and a Tula under eye stick just in case things are looking rough) in my car for emergencies. Lately, though. I LOVE my Glossier holiday lip balm and also Cover Girl lip stain (WHO KNEW? Jazzberry is the best color).
Yesterday, I took pics and timed the process to show you HOW FAST IT IS!

I ned to use mostly plain old cheap and gentle moisturizer, but I like to add a teeny bit of tint.
8:30 am-- this includes two minutes of tooth brushing!
I think my MVP is my NARS stick-- it makes my broken blood vessels in my cheeks look like blush! Love it forever. What about you? What's the BEST PRODUCT in your grooming routine?

I hear you on the "I can't wear it and I kind of hate the alternative but it's saving me money". I can't wear most makeup due to my eye sensitivity, so I'm saving buckets of money on makeup. Look at this point I'm used to it but if I could wear makeup just sayin' that there are other ways to save money. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteha-- very true. I miss all my expensive face potions and could def economize elsewhere
DeleteWow, you are fast! Like I said to Elisabeth, my routine is neither cheap, fast, nor minimal. I'll have to do my own post because it is way too long to leave as a comment. Need to know more about mascara primer please. I certainly do not need more products but maybe I need more products?
ReplyDeleteMy lashes have gotten... less robust... as I have gotten older, and primer helps make them bigger before the mascara goes on-- love it. Also, YES, my routine is not cheap (except for my $30 face lotion), but I love it.
DeleteI don't wear much makeup so I don't spend much money on it but I do spend more on skin care..Sophie Pavitt Face and Dieux skin are my favorites right now. I love Typology tinted serum for face or the Glossier skin tint, which I've been using since I discovered it in like 2017. Westman Atelier blush sticks are GREAT but pricy for sure. I use a mascara and a concealer from Sarah Creal that I love. Eadaem lip glosses are the best and I love Noto lip tints but tbh I'm not sure if that brand is still around, mine are a bit old, oops. I use boybrow from Glossier for brows. I have also dealt with perioral dermatitis and the only thing that cleared it was an antibiotic cream and a round of antibiotics so I don't give anything a second chance that seems like it might be irritating my skin
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a tinted serum-- I am going to experiment! I have almost bought that lush stick at Sephora instead of my trusty NARS-- maybe next time... (I have an abx cream, but my doc said I could use as needed, like before an event)
DeleteAgree, these are fun posts! But your routine also doesn't seem super minimal- I count 6 products before any makeup even goes on, and then another 8 for makeup stuff= 14 products! You always look amazing though so it clearly works!
ReplyDeleteI do not use any very fancy or fun products...I just buy drugstore variety. (I just don't know much about makeup techniques or products in the first place, I am not super interested, and also, I find the drugstore variety of all these things to be plenty of money already!!)
My routine is as follows (also not what I'd consider super minimalistic. Moderate level, I guess?):
1. I currently have been moisturizing with- get this- just Ponds daily moisturizer. Yes, as in your grandma's Ponds cold cream, but the moisturizer version. hahaha. I had been dealing with lotions making me break out and somehow I tried Ponds at my mom's house and it felt really good, didn't make me greasy and didn't make me break out! So I stuck with it.
2. concealer under my eyes or any other random spots- I swear by Maybelline Instant Age Rewind concealer, love it.
3. I swipe on some CoverGirl Aqua Smooth foundation/powder in one- it's a compact thing with a little sponge. idk, it never feels like real 'foundation' but it gives just a little coverage/ smooths things out. I guess that's why they call it a cross between foundation and powder.
4. I brush a little bronzer on my forehead and cheeks or else I feel so pale!
5. blush stick on cheeks
6. eyeliner (this one brand my MIL always brings me from Mexico that I like a lot), some random neutral eyeshadow in no particular application method lol, then mascara. I don't touch my eyebrows or do any lash prep besides swiping some mascara on.
That's it. It probably takes 5-10 minutes but often I'm sort of pokey/ listening to a podcast at the same time... could probably be done more quickly if needed. Anyway, I always feel like I don't "actually" know how to do makeup, but I feel like I usually look presentable enough, so I'm not all that motivated to learn. Maybe some day I'll get a real makeup tutorial. Ha.
Agree-- NOT minimal-- just fast! I worked at a LancĂ´me counter in college and was really sold on the primary step for my eyes-- concealer as an eyeshadows primer and mascara primer
