We just celebrated our NINTH dance recital weekend at Move Out Loud! NINE YEARS! I cannot even believe it.
You can check out recitals past through these links:
The night before dress rehearsal, I realized the dance bag was a disaster
We had an 8:05 am call on dress rehearsal day, which meant I had to get up BEFORE 6Which gave me plenty of time for a dog walk
HOW CUTE IS MINNIE in her tutu?!?! Also I did the BEST ballet buns all weekend.
I bought this maxi dress on a whim without trying on and did not realize there would be so much boob.
I was also caught off guard by all the gray hair. (I am going to go gray and see what I think before doing any more color)
We ended up being a teeny bit late and the girls basically ran straight onstage at the fancy recital venue
Minnie had to practice her curtain call dance in ballet clothes and tap shoes and then throw on ballet shoes to be the third dance of the show-- and we made it!OMG OMG OMG her serious little face
She got a trophy post-dance-- a highlight for sure.
She also LOVED sitting in the theater and watching the other dances.
She and I got to hang out with Dorothy in the backstage quick change area all show, and it was super fun, as usual.
Costume number 2:SHE WAS SO PROUD after her 2 dances.
We went to our favorite coffee shop for pride cookies (they only make them for the month of June, and Minnie talks about them all year long)
And had time t pose in matching peformance t-shirts.
Before heading straight to a baseball tournament to see Cop play and welcome my mom and Steve and Ben's parents, all in town for the recital.
I decided that show day (over the lunch hour) called for the big snack guns: SNACKLE BOXES
On show day, the kids have to stay backstage the whole 2.5 hours, so there's no time to go watch dances, and it gets kind of busy in quick change. We brought snacks and also small blocks and those art cards that you scratch off to reveal colors underneath-- all big hits and fun to share.
We arrived stress-free and in great spirits
And pretty much stayed that way the whole showWe met up with the fam after the show in our usual spot
(Dorothy did great, BTW-- I just focused on Minnie because Dorothy has next week to dance all 6 of her dances again)
(these are the only pics I have of her, and she took them herself)
Congrats on the weekend! Also, I am so interested in your grey hair experiment!
ReplyDeleteOmg what a whirlwind! Looks like you got everyone where they needed to be at the right time, and everyone had a blast. Minnie, what a CUTIE. I agree I love that photo of her serious face.
ReplyDeleteAnd- you look so cute! I think we're all interested in your gray hair experiment. A lot of times when people let their hair go gray their face looks younger, somehow. We'll see if you like it!
Minnie is DARLING, Sarah. It looks like so much fun!
ReplyDeleteAnd I need you to move in and do my hair for me. Argh. I hate, hate, hate doing anything related to hair and wish I had a live-in makeup and hair artist that would just be lounging around waiting for me to wake up when they could transform me while I sip on a hot cup of coffee. A girl can dream...
Minnie is too cute for words! And the snackle boxes are genius! Those ballet buns are ON POINT.
ReplyDeleteCannot wait to see how your grey hair project turns out! I forgot to pre-schedule my next hair appointment and still have several weeks to go, so I am kind of unintentionally joining you lol. I think you will look fabulous with grey hair.
You are such an awesome dance mom!! I will say, however, every time I see "dance posts", that I say a silent "thank you" to the universe that I do not have girls in dance. Not because it's not adorable and amazing, but I just think I would be SO BAD at it!! haha. The extent of my hair styling skills are putting mine in a ponytail, and I'm not even sure I could do that on another person. Makeup....really also not my forte....I mean, I wear it, and I think it looks... fine? But I'm never convinced I'm doing it "right" at all, so we're just winging it over here. ;) Dance aside, I think in general me just having 2 boys was the right call. lol!
ReplyDeleteStress free and in good spirits? As a retired Irish dance mom, I applaud you. I never accomplished that in all my years shuffling dancers to competitions. I think the dress is cute. If you've got 'em, show 'em, right? I'm a carpenter's dream, so nothing to show. The pics are so cute. Hooray for doing the bun so well. I hated being on wig duty and felt much better about it when I paid someone else to do it, even when it meant getting there at 4:30 am. Dang, I don't miss those days.
ReplyDeleteI went grey during the pandemic and have no regrets. Purple shampoo is my friend, though.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely that so much of the extended family were able to join this celebration. You're glowing, Sarah! Especially in that babydoll dress!
ReplyDeleteI've got a bunch of gray hair now and I kind of dig it. I'm growing out a very short haircut so I'm curious to see how it looks when it's longer. I just don't have time to get my hair cut every two months...
ReplyDeleteI love this! I went to my friend's daughters dance recital this weekend, and I was thinking about you and all you do with Dorothy/Minnie. It was SO much fun, both the adorable preschoolers and the really good high school dancers!
