I am trying this thing I heard about on The Lazy Genius podcast where I spend 15 minutes every day cleaning up my camera roll. I open my photo app and search for the current day. Then I delete duplicate photos, blurry phots, screen shots, etc, on that day across years. I usually get rid of about 100-200 clutter photos each day. It's a lovely walk down memory lane, and I will end up with a more manageable (and easier to navigate) photo library at the end of a calendar year (I started on 10/16). Will I be able to make this an actual daily habit? WHO KNOWS.
Speaking of trying for a daily habit-- I am an upholder, so shouldn't I just... be able to keep a habit if I say I want to? Why are some of these daily things hard for me? Do I actually just not want to do them?
Other daily/weekly habits I need to stick with:
- Track my food on MFP the night before-- this makes my days less hassle and makes me think less about what I am eating
- Use my one-sentence journal. It's one of those fun 5-year journals, and I love it, but sometimes I forget to write in it for days and then binge write-- these entries are never as good as the ones I do the day after they happen.
- Plan each day in advance. I really really really really really need to check in with my to-do list and my calendar every day at the end of my work day. It would be an excellent closing up ritual. AND YET.
- Read whatever I am plodding through on my Kindle for at least 10 minutes every day. I love it when I remember to do this, but sometimes I just... don't.
- Use cuticle cream
- Do a sheet mask like once a week (I have STACKS OF THESE sitting in a drawer)
- Wear my Laniege lip mask to bed.

That sounds like a good season to be in! And, I've heard of that photo hack- I've thought about doing it but somehow haven't started.
ReplyDeleteSince you're an upholder, maybe you really DON'T want to do some of those things on your list. Why don't you send your dilemma in the form of a question to Gretchen Rubin, and maybe she'll read it on the podcast. She's an upholder- maybe she'll have some insights for you!
I have a hunch what the issue is... you're like me, and you have TOO MANY things you want to "daily-ish". I also love the idea of all these daily habits and am constantly tempted to add new ones. It all sounds so simple to do something just "a few minutes a day!". But when suddenly you're adding up daily photo time, daily Kindle reading time, daily walking and running time, daily yoga or weights time, daily journal writing time, daily blogging time, daily email clean out, daily food logging, daily quick money check, daily sink cleaning and bed washing, fill in the blank/ etc etc... ON TOP of all of the other daily things parents do like, driving their kids and making dinner and packing lunches and oh yeah WORKING.... pretty soon it's just way too much. At some point, something's gotta give.
ReplyDeleteKae is right. Surely you can - do yoga for 10 minutes a day, read the Bible for 10 minutes a day, plan meals for 10 minutes a day, clean out one drawer (only takes 10 minutes!). But there are only so many 10 minute pieces in a day and some of them you want to spend doing WHATEVER.
ReplyDeleteI live by my to do list, but dang - there are days when I don't even get a single thing done off of my list. Then I circle the things I REALLY need to get done, and sometimes that isn't even happening. You know what is happening? I'm spending nap time sitting on my deck, enjoying the sunshine, reading or listening to an audio book - today I fell asleep during said audio book and now I have to figure out what the last part was I remember. Oops.
ReplyDeleteDrinking alcohol outside in nice weather is delightful.
You track your food the day before? So you know ahead of time what you’re going to eat?
ReplyDeleteI agree with the others, that this all might be a lot. Also, my desk is totally Thursday desk all the time.
I did that photo trick and now I just go through the previous month's photos at the beginning of the next month, and it's gotten SUPER easy. You can do it!
ReplyDeleteI am constantly fighting with myself about everything I want to do on a daily basis. It feels like there are never enough hours and I do not have children!!!
