Quantity Time Mom

Summer me is definitely a quantity time mom, not necessarily a quality time mom.

But! I have gotten dressed every day! (In a sweater no less because we had a day in the FIFTIES, which, to me, was heaven-- such a good run, even though I got rained on)

And! We nailed our theme days (I am writing this before Minnie has selected her first FUN FUN FRIDAY option from her paper lunch sack of destiny, but I am pretty sure that was fun, too)

(even though Fridays are work days for me, and I have a pretty intense Fun Fun Teams meeting scheduled for most of my morning)

(also I really hope she pulls "go to the movies" because I need some TOY STORY 5 in my life)

We baked for Make it Monday, went to a park bright an early for New Park Tuesday, stopped by Crumbl on the way to pick up the dive kids for Sweet Treat Wednesday, and signed up for our library reading program on Library Thursday

Normally, Dorothy would be LIVING THE LIFE during her ONE WEEK of summer break not dominated by dance, but she was in a terrible electric scooter accident with (dance) friends last weekend and is resting her horribly bruised (but not broken!!-- she got an xray) knee in advance of Friday's all-day rehearsal calendar. Thank god everyone was wearing helmets. She also has petty bad road rash and may miss the very first day of convention classes at nationals but should be good to go for day 2 of classes and her comp days (doc said stay off of it for a week, and she is taking that seriously-- will plan to ice it in between runs at rehearsal and not go full out). Sooooo she has been spending lots of time working on her novel.

Minnie continues to take her workbooking very seriously. She is working through a rising first grader workbook (spelling, phonics, language arts, and reading), a kindergarten math packet, a rising first grader math packet, and a first grader math packet. Phew!
(If this is what it is like to have kid who does not have ADHD, wow it is a new and wonderful experience)

Summer is the beeeeeest.

Sorry to hear about Dorothy’s accident! I saw some middle schools on scooters in downtown Minneapolis and commented to Phil about how they looked constantly on the cusp of someone getting hurt. Those scooters can go so fast!! I hope she heals well and am glad she didn’t break any bones!!

Summer theme days for the win! This is my second summer of implementing Musical Mondays (work day for me in which I teach preschool music and many private students - my kids have to fend for themselves!), Treats on Tuesday (take out or ice cream, or even a day trip to an amusement park or something fun), Work on Wednesday (house work / yard work followed by a weekly swim meet which is work for all of us!), Adventures on Thursday (bigger trips or bigger fun), and Fun Fridays (pool! Or sometimes the start to a vacation!) I’ve got almost all teenagers (17,15, and 12) but they are still all-in. It’s amazing how having a plan for the week can make things so much easier, and make the things we want to do “fit.” I LOVE summer and find myself wanting to just do it all. This really helps rein me in a bit, and help me know there’s a time for everything. Happy summer to you and your fam!

Hi from Canada! My daughter has just been accepted to a dance troupe here and it is all new to us. She did competitive gymnastics for five years and decided she wanted to switch to dance. She has even offered 7 dances including one Acro trio however we’re not sure if she will do them all (only 4 are required here). Anyways, would love any tips and suggestions as a new dance mom! I really enjoy reading your blog!

Can you talk more about adhd, mothering and all tips you can have? i have a teen daughter with adhd and i am the opposite of adhd so i have been reading and educating myself for years on how to be the best mom she needs, and not necessarily the best mom in the world. i am seeing so much shame is involved with adhd, and it seems to me it is auto imposed. how do you deal with that? i have a mantra: "listen more and talk less". that seems to help in our daily lives..., give me all your advice and lessons learned throughout the years. also, funny story,: the first time i played Memory with my youngest she was two, and she held her attention and engagement the entire game!, that is when i realized my back then 4 years old had attention challenges and started the diagnostic adventure with specialist. :-) thanks!!!!

  6. Omg, Dorothy. SO glad the accident wasn't worse! That's scary. I hope she's fully recovered in time for all her activities. I guess it's lucky this happened on her week off.
You are nailing summer! I love all the theme days, and I hope you got to the movies on Friday.
