I listened to The Lazy Genius on my way to work the other day, and she had a fantastic list of what's saving her life right now. More than the list itself I was charmed by the idea of a list like this. And then! I noticed that both Sam and San have written theirs lately. So! Here's mine:
1. Gimmee Some Oven no-bake energy bites. Kae raved about these, and I remembered them after not making for YEARS. Now they are back in rotation. I like how filling and also treaty they are. (I toast my coconut in the oven and use sun butter and chocolate chips and aim for 20 balls/recipe).
2. The NYT cooking app and its daily newsletter. So many great recipes coming right to my inbox!! We have made (and really liked) one pot pasta with ricotta and lemon, chicken and rice casserole, rice krispie treats with chocolate and pretzels, egg muffins, pasta primavera, fluffy pumpkin pancakes, parmesan crusted salmon caesar salad, chile crisp fettuccine alfredo with spinach.
3. RUNNING. I feel like I have wasted YEARS not doing this.
4. No bed rotting. My alarm goes off, and I GET UP. It is wonderful (and terrible when the morning is cold).
5. Starbucks holiday drinks. I AM VERY BASIC, OK?
6. Dental floss in the car (probably because I am always eating energy bits on the way to work).
7. Immediately grading student work. NOTHING IS PILING UP YOU GYS. It is amazing.

I love it!!! Yes to running of course. And, Starbucks holiday drinks (or, at least my usual tea in a holiday cup- I love it so much). i need to listen to that podcast episode- I haven't listened to Kendra in a while.
ReplyDeleteI just recently discovered her, which is pretty wild.
DeleteTherapy is saving my PTSD brain. Also, Orange Theory Fitness classes, long walks, and cuddling with my kids.
ReplyDeleteis your blog private right now? I miss it
DeleteIt is… I had to make it private due to the lawsuit. You can request access but have to have a Wordpress account (which is so annoying!). I think the lawsuit will last 1-2 years so it kind of sucks to have my blog private but oh well…
DeleteI'm so impressed about immediately grading the student work--it is so easy to let that pile up. Now I want to try the gimme some oven energy bites! We have an NYT subscription, but not with the cooking section. The app and newsletter sound great, and I will definitely keep it in mind the next time I'm in a cooking rut.
ReplyDeleteI only teach 2 classes, and my TAs grade 99% of the work, so this is not as impressive as it might appear. (I grade these little weekly check in assignments and essay exams tho)
DeleteYoga! And Kind pumpkin seed dark chocolate and cherry granola bars (because I am bad at packing lunch for work). And - literally - my friend Jody who talked me through the terrifying darkness/snowstorm/highway drive the other night. And antidepressants, also literally.
ReplyDeletedo you make these granola bars? I am goggling now
DeleteNo, but I just bought pumpkin seeds to see if I can make something close.
DeleteI'm all about those little floss sticks. Something no one mentions is when you get older the space between teeth get a tad bigger and I get so much food stuck in my teeth and I want to pick it out of my teeth at the table because holy discomfort. In other words, I struggle to eat in public. I make some protein balls that are no bake, but I'm interested to check yours out. Those are the best.
ReplyDeleteFeminism and Angela Davis are saving me in my happy place at the National Women's Studies Association conference right now.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm so sorry to be the bearer of bad news, and I don't know what your crossing the picket-line principles are, but Starbucks baristas are striking nationwide for benefits.
Running! Yes! Also: holiday drinks (although I make them at home).
ReplyDeleteHi this is Daria from momofchildren.
ReplyDelete1. Tony being home this week and taking the load off my shoulders
2. Mornings with my cuddly bear son- he is an early riser like me
3. Someone else taking the kid to jiu jitsu
4. Skating
5. Anticipating the holidays <3
STARBUCKS HOLIDAY DRINKSSSSS. Yessss. I have already had far too many peppermint mochas. I need to try some of their other holiday drinks, just to switch things up!
