OMG YOU GUYS THE HOLIDAYS ARE UPON US.
I am plugging along with assorted menus and wishlists. Our Elf has his stuff on lock this year and is ready with Christmas jammies (and he even bought everyone a shirt they will wear again, but you better believe the pants are al matching). I have gotten something for most people and lots of some people who are very easy to buy for (cough cough DOROTHY cough cough).
I have a NYT recipe box going with Thanksgiving recipes, and we have started chipping away at our grocery list. My ILs are bringing a fresh turkey with them and making sweet and mashed potatoes at our house. I am making a pumpkin cheesecake with Biscoff crust, and I have already put in a pie order at our favorite bakery. We are making cheesy potatoes (yes we are having 3 kinds of potatoes), green bean casserole, brussels sprouts, stuffing, fluffy jello (midwesty!) ham, and cranberry sauce, all from scratch. Plus peanut butter blossom cookies. And dinner rolls. And my MIL is also bringing chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin bars, so we will have 6 desserts for 9 people, which is a pretty good ratio.
But still! So much to decide on and purchase.
Our family white elephant/yankee swap theme is Inside Out this year, which is going to be fun to shop for, I think...
Anyone else like me and just realize it is already MID NOVEMBER??? How's your holiday prep?

Omg that cart photo is making my heart race. Lol. We are going to my brother’s for Thanksgiving. All I need to bring is the veggie tray and dips and olives. I am also bringing sugar cookies for the kids to decorate as a little bday activity as we are celebrating Taco’s 5th bday that day.
ReplyDeleteI haven’t done any holiday shopping yet but we have a very short list of things to buy since we are quite minimalists when it comes to gifts. I kind of dread the onslaught of gifts TBH. We have asked for a lot of experience type of gifts for the kids this year. I hope people comply…
lol same!!!
DeleteBen actually had THE SECOND CART
DeleteThe ground on my stand mixer broke and so I am waiting for the one I want to go on sale - hopefully soon. I want to start my Christmas baking!
ReplyDeleteoooooh nooooo! Mine broke one year before Thanksgiving, and I took it to a spall appliance repair shop-- I love that thing.
DeleteThanksgiving is in my rearview mirror, so I'm thinking about Christmas. I have a modest amount done, but zero wrapping. I mostly cook the same thing every year so I don't have to think too long and hard about the menu.
ReplyDeleteUsually I feel like I have All the Things very well planned at this point and this year I'm kinda limping along. BUT. The tree is up and most of the rest of the decor, so I guess I crossed that off the list earlier than normal. And it's oh-so-festive in our living room.
I am excited to decorate!
DeleteWe are traveling across the country for Thanksgiving, so I'm mostly focused on packing and making sure everyone has cool weather clothes in the right sizes. We do have some decorations up minus outdoor lights, but I need to spend some time getting organized. Honestly, this may not happen until after we are home from Philly although I may try to buy a few gifts during black Friday sales online.
ReplyDeletesame re: online sales....
DeleteI think I will aim to do a ton of black Friday Hanukkah shopping (and G/J bday shopping) again this year. Tgiving is so easy for us because it's a big family thing not hosted by me, and I just bring 3 key lime pies (my assignment every year basically).
ReplyDeleteI am already making carts and hope to see those prices fall...
DeleteACK!!! Where is the time going??? WHY does this time of year, my favorite, go by so frickin fast?
ReplyDeleteI haven't started any Thanksgiving prep, which I now realize should stress me out. It will only be the four of us, but still- my son is coming home, I need to clean the house and do all the shopping... HOW is Thanksgiving next week????
it DOES go so fast!
DeleteHOW is it T-giving next week!? I can't wait to see your tees in action. And that pumpkin cheesecake with the Biscoff crust sounds awesomely decadent! We have a set (though extensive) menu, so that part is ok, but our guest list expands and contracts depending on friends in town, international students, and on and on and I don't have any proper RSVPs yet... I better go check on those.
ReplyDelete(I'm secretly hoping it's a small gathering this year... I've not been very social lately.)
I like small, but I am excited about the kids all bringing partners home someday...
DeleteI'm just so IMPRESSED with you! Way to go!!
ReplyDeleteawwwww thanks
DeleteMy side is very big on desserts, but Coach's side is all about their appetizers. My side has never done appetizers for T-giving, probably because there's gonna be so much food at the main course. 6 desserts for 9 people - I like those odds of finding something or more than one something to enjoy. I'm sure it'll be a great day. Personally, I'm glad the elf craze happened after our kids were older. I cannot imagine dealing with one more thing.
ReplyDeletewe do minimal appetizers for the same reason
DeleteTony is the cooler in this family ;) I just nod and clean up. We are having Thanksgiving at our house but only the four of us and the two friends.
ReplyDeleteChristmas.. funny you mention it, I went to Walmart to get some dishwasher pods and got some stocking stuffers (candy) for the kids.
Daria
I always promise myself I am not going to save the stockings for the last minute. And then...
DeleteI am pretty sure I would be FLIPPING out except that my parents are hosting Thanksgiving this year! All I have to do is bring a dessert. Speaking of which... cheesecake sounds pretty great. What recipe do you like?
ReplyDeleteI am SO ahead of the present game. I am done with a handful of people already, which NEVER happens. I don't know if I love that holiday sales start so early but it does help when it comes to shopping!
ReplyDeleteI don't have to do much for Thanksgiving - I'm bringing dessert but otherwise, my mom and stepdad are doing the hard work. Woop!
