1. Taking a daily med is really hard to remember. I was on birth control from ages 18-26, and I remembered that, but I haven't had a daily med since then, except for a couple of brief encounters with the mini pill after a couple pf the kids (did not like it). Now I need to take a progesterone pill every night, and I am failing to remember it. Which! Is kind of stupid because not taking it while on an estrogen patch can literally cause uterine cancer. I also want to remember to take fish oil and B6 in the morning, along with some fiber and then magnesium and a calming tea at night. But if I mess up my routine even a little. bit, I forget everything. And summer! Is the season of a messed up routine.
2. It is hot, and I hate hot.
3. Coop carried on an entire bag of towels (FIVE) because he likes the towels he likes when he's diving.
4. Dorothy came to the pool after dance the other night (SHE HAS A SIX HOUR DAY, and I am definitely door dashing her dinner every week on this day because that's too long to eat a lackluster packed dinner that's been stuffed in her dance bag with her extra shoes on her one and only break) and swam with her ballet bun, hair net and all.
5. Can you believe Minnie did her own makeup?
Any pills that I need to take daily, I tack them onto a routine that I will never forget. Usually mine need to be consumed with a meal, so I just always take them at whatever meal it is I've tacked them on to. I find if I leave them in a convenient place I won't forget - maybe if you have to take your pill before bed, you could leave it with your night creams, so you don't forget?
ReplyDeleteUGH. I have to take it at bedtime, so it is on my bathroom counter right by my toothbrush. I don't know what's wrong with me.
DeleteI have pills I must take morning and evening, and exactly 12 hours apart (blood thinner) and I STILL have to set an alarm or I will forget.
ReplyDeleteAlso - the heat and humidity SUCK so thank goodness these last few days have been cooler!
SO HUMID. Also, I just set an Alexa alarm :)
DeleteI missed taking my morning pills 5 times after the semester ended. My morning routine went haywire! Luckily, my pills are more long term need than a immediate necessity, so it won't kill me. (just got crabby because blood pressure was up!) I also have to give my daughter pills 3 times a day, and I have alarms set up for that.
ReplyDeleteI love Minnie's makeup! I miss the preschool years...
Ha ha... why yes I can believe Minnie did her own makeup!
ReplyDeleteI'm taking a bunch of extra supplements now (to go with my extra-fun diet) and it's practically impossible. Some of them need to be between meals, some with... arg. Luckily there's no dire consequences if I forget them.
GLAD YOUR AC IS FIXED!!!!!!!!!
I got myself a pill planner for my HRT and supplements it’s the only way! My husband has alarms set or he’d forget to take his blood thinners too.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to pile on with Nicole here, but habit stacking is the solution. I have taken daily meds for years and I honestly never miss them. Is there something you do every single day (even when you travel)? I brush my teeth, brush my hair, and write in my line a day journal every day. So things are tied to that. I have daily medications right next to my toothbrush so I remember to take them (which I see you do in the comments). When I pack, I put my toothpaste in the same bag as my daily meds. That sort of thing? The key is that you have to associate it with things you do every day no matter what.
ReplyDeleteTHEN! You need a way to track the habit. Just for a few weeks. Maybe a calendar taped to the bathroom mirror that you have to check off when you've taken the medicine? Or a place in your daily planner to tick it off. It doesn't have to be forever - just a few weeks until it's an ingrained pattern.
If it's something that has to be done at a certain time every day, then it makes sense to have an alarm set, although I personally ignore alarms ALL THE TIME.
Minnie!!!! So cute.
ReplyDeleteI am struggling with the pills too Sarah! I have a whole pile of them (I think I am up to ten now, gross) and three/four I take at night and the rest I take in the morning and sometimes I forget if I've taken them all. I'm thinking I need to get one of those weekly pill container things that my FIL has. Sigh. Old age comes at you fast.
I recommend a days of the week pill box!! I have one with am and pm slots. It’s is necessary since I take so many meds for RA and can forget whether I have taken mg meds yet or not. I think the Apple Watch has a pill notification ap or something like that. So that might help. I don’t need that since I have been on a heavy course of meds for 10+ years so it’s second nature.
ReplyDeleteDays of the week (morning and night) pill box works for me too, but I know what you mean about forgetting things that are important and should be easy to remember. Is your phone with you enough to set an alarm for a bit until it's more of a habit?
ReplyDeleteI hate the hot too.
Ugh. I hate forgetting pills. It's a real problem. I know there's an app that sounds like a shaking pill bottle until you turn it off. I have a weekly pill container on my bathroom counter and one on my kitchen island, next to my paper (old school, who?) desk calendar.
ReplyDeleteLove family time at the pool. We are struggling with pool changes in our neck of the woods. I have to write a post about it. So frustrating.
Oh, Minnie. So cute.
I have pills I have to take, and I am good about those. I have pills I should take, and I forget those. These sound like pills you HAVE to take, so I’m glad you have set the alarm but also like Engie’s idea of a check off thing for a couple of weeks, especially since summer schedules are weird and what if you’re not near Alexa when the alarm goes off?
ReplyDeleteI like a pill organizer, but I don’t usually have it together enough to place the pills in the organizer. The first pill I have to take on an empty stomach then wait an hour before taking any other meds or eating. So annoying! so I keep that on my bathroom counter. My next pill, I keep in my purse these days.
ReplyDeleteListen, people mean well with their advice, but NONE OF IT WORKS FOR ME. I have tried habit stacking, I have tried the days of the week pill box, I have tried alarms, but I STILL forget at least 1-2 days every week. I have it tied to my morning routine, but I tend to forgo that routine on weekends and then I realize I haven't taken my anxiety meds in 3 days. UGH. I have no advice, just solidarity!
